Cargo bikes take centre stage at Utrecht’s October festival

Utrecht’s professional cargo-bike festival runs 12–13 October 2026, 10am–5pm, at Jaarbeurs’ Beatrixgebouw, with an expo, test track and talks.

Trying a cargo bike is one thing. Finding somewhere to park it, someone to repair it and a way to make it earn its keep is another. Those everyday questions sit behind the International Cargo Bike Festival’s focus on wider adoption.

The professional event is scheduled for 12–13 October 2026 at Jaarbeurs’ Beatrixgebouw in Utrecht, the Netherlands. It combines an exhibition, a test track, talks, panels and screenings. This is a trade gathering and festival, rather than an organised group ride; our coverage is based on the organiser’s programme, not attendance.

Where, when and who it is for

  • Venue: Beatrixgebouw, Jaarbeursplein 6, 3521 AL Utrecht, Netherlands.
  • Dates: Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 October 2026.
  • Opening hours: 10:00–17:00 on both days, local Utrecht time.
  • Audience: the organiser describes the event as aimed at professionals.
  • Admission: free tickets are advertised through the official booking page; check availability and registration before travelling.

The main entrance is on Croeselaan, close to Utrecht Centraal railway station. Visitor information lists step-free access and accessible toilets. Contact the organiser about particular access requirements rather than assuming every travel connection is suitable.

What visitors can do, and why it is being held

The expo brings bicycles and industry discussions together, while the test track gives visitors an opportunity to try designs. Speakers, panels and screenings address the wider arrangements needed for cargo-bike adoption. This is useful for businesses and organisations considering equipment, operations and support, rather than simply comparing how different bikes look.

The programme was announced on 6 October. This is a preview based on the organiser’s information, not a report from the event floor or evidence that every scheduled session has taken place.

Beyond the bicycle itself

The announced subjects include battery technology, regulation, parking and municipal fleets (vehicles used by local authorities). A Monday keynote is planned to explore lessons from battery-swapping systems in African cities; Tuesday’s programme includes mechanic qualifications and battery passports (records of battery information).

The event is aimed especially at professional visitors. The organiser lists free admission with advance online registration, and opportunities to try bicycles at the test track. Check the visitor information before travelling.

Our view: the support around the bike counts

For UK businesses considering cargo bikes, the worthwhile lesson is that the bicycle is only part of the purchase. Storage, charging where needed, maintenance and the route all help decide whether it will be useful on Monday morning.

A test track offers a chance to compare handling, but it cannot reproduce an entire working day. Ask about permitted loads, service arrangements and the complete setup cost. Enthusiasm is welcome; an answer to “where will we keep it?” is useful too.
