Practical tool

Towbar bike carrier weight checker

Put your documented figures in one place before loading the car.

This checker compares an approved towball-mounted carrier setup against the weight limits you enter. It does not approve fit or road legality. Use the exact vehicle, towbar and carrier manuals; any more restrictive carrier-load table takes precedence.

Enter bikes as they will travel. Carrier accessories count towards the carrier setup’s weight. If the car has a separate bicycle-carrier vertical-load restriction, include it when choosing the lowest applicable limit below.

Enter the figures from your manuals, then select Check these weights.

What still needs checking?

Vehicle approval, carrier-specific load tables, tyre and wheel dimensions, attachment compatibility, ground and exhaust clearance, vehicle laden weight and axle limits all need separate checks. A rear-mounted load can increase rear-axle loading by more than its own weight. The result here only compares the numbers supplied.

If positions have different limits, compare each bike with its own position separately; this tool uses the lower limit for both. A number passing these checks is not permission to exceed another restriction.
