Trek FX and Specialized Sirrus are bike families, so there is no useful winner based on the names alone. This guide explains what to compare on two exact shop builds: tyres, gears, fit, luggage and the finished price. Sirrus and Sirrus X are different ranges, and an FX generation can change the specification.
Get the exact model details
Ask for year or generation, model code and the actual component list in your size. Check any substitutions before paying. A description saying only FX or Sirrus is not precise enough to compare gears or price.

The manufacturer photographs and specifications below identify the examples discussed. The general comparison images explain what to examine; they are not product photographs of the two named models. Use the details for the bikes actually offered to you.
Compare tyres and accessories together
Tyre width can help on broken roads, but construction, pressure and fit also affect comfort. Ask what tyres and mudguards are approved for the exact frame and fork, and inspect their clearance (the space around the tyres).

Look for the rack mounting arrangement and try your normal luggage. A promising tyre specification is less useful if the mudguards you need cannot fit properly. Compare the lowest gear for your hill too; the number of speeds alone does not answer that question.
Let the test ride settle the fit question
Have each appropriate size set up for a trial. Rest your hands on the normal grips and check brake reach, then take a permitted ride with comparable starts, stops and hills. Notice wrist comfort, control and whether you can look ahead comfortably.

Ask about approved adjustments if a position feels awkward. Try your usual shoes and a suitable loaded pannier, checking heel clearance. Another rider’s preference cannot establish your fit, and a dearer build does not automatically make it more comfortable.
Compare two ready-to-commute quotations
Add rack, mudguards, lights, lock and fitting to both prices. Ask about servicing and common replacement parts, then check the storage routine. You are buying a daily setup, not just a gear-system label.

Choose the exact FX or Sirrus build that gives you the better combination of fit, route suitability, luggage and total cost. The specific figures and comparison table below help you ask those questions; they do not establish a universal brand winner.

Start with two exact bikes
Trek FX and Specialized Sirrus are families of flat-handlebar bikes, not two fixed specifications. Sirrus and Sirrus X are also different ranges. Compare the actual models offered in your size, rather than deciding which brand is universally better.
As an illustration, Trek’s generation guide lists an aluminium frame, disc brakes, commuting mounts and Shimano CUES gearing on FX 2 and FX 3 Gen 4. The Specialized UK Sirrus X 2.0 page checked on 12 October 2026 lists an aluminium frame, steel fork, hydraulic disc brakes, 700×40C tyres and 1×9 gearing. It shows a £699 price. Those details must not be applied to every Sirrus or older shop listing.
Get the model code, year or generation and actual component list in writing. Ask the seller about substitutions before paying.
Compare the ready-to-commute cost
The bike price may exclude essentials. Request a total for the bicycle, compatible mudguards and rack, lights, lock and installation. A cheaper bike can become the dearer setup if the accessories you need are difficult to fit.
| Item to compare | Question for the seller |
|---|---|
| Gearing | What is the lowest gear on this exact bike? |
| Tyres and mudguards | Which approved combination fits without rubbing? |
| Rack and luggage | What load is permitted and does my bag clear my heel? |
| Servicing | What do replacement chain, cassette and pads cost? |
| Complete cost | What is the installed, ready-to-ride quotation? |
