Ridgeback tyre recall: check Comet, Motion and Speed bikes

A manufacturer safety notice identifies potentially affected models and explains how owners can arrange an inspection.

Owners of potentially affected Ridgeback Comet, Motion and Speed bicycles should stop riding and check the official tyre-recall notice. A possible manufacturing defect in fitted Vee Zilent tyres could cause failure and a fall.

The UK recall register dates the notice to 1 October 2026. Ridgeback’s September document covers all sizes sold from 2020 onwards with product codes beginning RB21. The key detail is the identification information: this is not a recall of every Ridgeback bicycle or every tyre.

Identify the bicycle before arranging a remedy

The concern relates to fitted Vee Zilent tyres, rather than a recall of every Ridgeback bicycle. A tyre manufacturing defect can result in failure and a fall. The UK regulator lists reference 2609-0070; the Government of Jersey also reproduces the notice and links to Ridgeback’s document.

Record the model name and available product details, then contact a Ridgeback dealer for inspection and replacement of defective tyres. Do not use a general tyre photograph to identify the affected version. If the bicycle has changed hands, pass the notice to its current owner. Inspection appointments and repair timing need confirmation from the dealer; the notice does not establish a universal turnaround time.

What to do next

  1. Check the bicycle’s model and product information against the manufacturer’s notice.
  2. Follow the stop-riding instruction for potentially affected models; contact a Ridgeback dealer if you cannot establish whether yours is included.
  3. Arrange inspection and replacement of defective tyres through the dealer. Ask about timing rather than assuming a fixed turnaround.
  4. If you sold or passed on the bike, send the notice to its current owner.

Our view: make getting back on the bike straightforward

A recall is an interruption, particularly when a bicycle is everyday transport. Clear identification and a usable repair process matter more than alarming generalisations. Keep the model details and dealer correspondence together, and explain if you rely on the bike for daily journeys.

The photograph here is illustrative, so use the official document’s pictures to identify the affected product. We have not inspected a recalled bicycle or established how many tyres are defective.
